LUANG PHOR THUAD

LUANG PHOR THUAD

Luang Phor Thuad was born in BE 2125 Songkhla province in Southern Thailand. Both of Luang Phor’s parents were farmers of Chinese descent. They called their son Puu (Por)– this means ‘crab’ in Thai. Both parents were devotees of Buddhism and were delighted that their son was having an interest in spirituality at an early age.

One of the earliest signs that show his parents that Luang Phor Thuad was special happened when he was just 6 months old. Both of his parents were working in the rice fields whereby they left Luang Phor Thuad lying on a blanket, under the shade of a tree. During noontime, his mother returned to find Luang Phor Thuad surrounded by a large reticulated python curled around him. At first she panicked, but then she noticed that her baby did not seem to be in any discomfort. She then recalled a story from her childhood of how the gods can sometimes come to Earth in the form of a snake. Instead of chasing the snake away, which would have been too dangerous. She found some flowers and put them in front of the python. Soon the python responded by moving away from Luang Phor Thuad. Before leaving, the python spit out a crystal ball and his mother then kept it with her.

There is another legend related to the crystal ball that was left behind for Luang Phor Thuad’s family by the python. Soon a rich man heard of the story of how Luang Phor Thuad’s family had obtained such a precious item, he became envious. He forced Luang Phor Thuad’s mother to sell it to him. Initially, the rich man felt delighted as he could get such a precious item but then one by one his family member became ill. He sought help from a spirit doctor who told him that the crystal ball would bring bad luck to anyone except Luang Phor Thuad. The rich man knew he had no choice but to return it.

Ordaining as a Monk

Luang Por Thuad’s family ensured that he received substantial religious training as he grew up. By the age of 5, he would begin to attend lessons on Dharma from the local temple. The monks there were amazing at how quickly and deeply he could absorb the lessons .Within a couple of years he had mastered all the teachings that the local monks could offer him, and he started visiting temples far away from his home in order to learn more. It was hardly any surprise that he ordained as a monk at the age of 12. He then spent his early years as a monk living at Wat Pakok in Songkhla province.

Even though traveling around Thailand in those days was difficult, it was common for monks to visit temples in other parts of the country. One of the most famous stories about Luang Phor Thuad involves a trip that he decided to make to Ayutthaya – this was then the capital of Thailand. He needed to make the first part of this trip by boat. His ship was sailing up the coast in the Gulf of Thailand when they got caught in a storm. The weather became so severe that the crew began to panic. The storm lasted for days and they ended up getting lost at sea with no fresh water to drink. For some reason they began to suspect that the cause of their misfortune was Luang Phor Thuad. They talked about throwing him overboard until the Luang Phor Thuad performed two miracles – he caused the sea to become calm and he turned the seawater around the boat into fresh drinking water. After that, the thoughts of throwing him overboard were dismissed.

Ayutthaya was the center of Thai Buddhism back in those days, and Luang Phor Thuad had high hopes of what he could learn there. He arrived at one of the large monasteries in the city but was turned away because he looked so disheled. Luang Phor Thuad was required to look for a temple in Ayutthaya that was willing to admit him, but eventually he found an old rundown monastery that offered him a place to stay.

Legend has it that at this time there was a sense of rivalry between Thai and Sri Lankan Buddhists. The King of Sri Lanka offered to give Thailand’s leaders boats full of gold if they were able to solve a certain Buddhist puzzle. All the senior monks in Ayutthaya failed in this task, but eventually it was solved by Luang Phor Thuad.

Final Years of Luang Phor Thuad

Luang Phor Thuad returned back to Songkhla as a famous monk – he also had The King’s blessing to restore Pha Khoh temple which had fallen into ruin. He eventually became the abbot of Wat Chang Hai in Pattani. Luang Phor became renowned for his psychic powers, and many miracles are attributed to him. He passed on when he was at the age of 120.

Luang Phor Thuad Amulets

Even after Luang Phor Thuad passed on, he continued to help his devotees. Monks staying at Wat Chang Hai and elsewhere began to experience intense dreams where they would meet this spiritual teacher in other realms. They felt compelled to make amulets of him, and they found that these could bring protection to the wearer.

Luang Phor Thuad continues to be one of the most revered monks in Thailand. Any visitor to Thailand is sure to come across pictures, posters, drawings, and statues of him – he is usually depicted as an old man seated in meditation and hunched over – with brooding shoulders. His amulets frequently depict him in black, he was very dark, and the black also signifies an aura of mystery surrounding him. In Phang Nga on the road to Phuket, there is a very large statue of Luang Phor Thuad, Krabi has one, Ubon Ratchathani also has one.

Amulets of Luang Phor Thuad are popular in Thailand and other parts of Asia. You can hear many stories from people who feel certain that wearing a Luang Phor Thuad amulet has positively impacted their life.

Luang Phor Thuad was born in BE 2125 of the Buddhist calendar during the Ayutthaya Dynasty. The master was born in a poor family who often gave and donated temples, and his single name was “Bui”; on a certain day when he was a baby, he slept outside the home He was in the hammock, but was suddenly found surrounded by a huge python. No one was allowed to approach him. Anyone who saw him wanted to say that he was dead and hopeless. However, his parents thought that the python should be from the sky. The god who descended was to protect the child, so he took flowers and incense candles to worship the giant python. Unexpectedly, the giant python crawls away. Afterwards, everyone rushed to see the baby, but the baby was still sleeping, but in the In the baby’s heart, a colorful gem was found, and his parents put the gem away. Since then, the family has gradually developed.

At the age of seven, he was taken by his father to study at Wat Dee Luang. Somparn Juang was his teacher, and he lived in a Buddhist temple to study further. He was very talented and could fully integrate the Thai language and scriptures he had read. He became a monk at the age of 15. Monk, when he became a monk, his parents gave him the gems found in his chest, and he often went to different temples to study; at the beginning, the people called him “Sami Langmo” or “Sami Lang”, and he was named by Nakong. After completing his studies in Xita Mala Mansion, he moved towards Ayutthaya. When he passed Chong Peng Mansion on the way, due to the strong wind and waves, the boat could not dock, so he stayed on the boat for seven days. All the food on the boat had been used up, and the people on board Thinking that this kind of thing happened because of him, everyone unanimously asked this monk to get off the boat. At that time, he put his feet into the sea, and the sea glowed brightly. Suspicious, I drank it later, but I didn’t expect it to be drinkable fresh water. Everyone asked him not to leave the boat, worshiped him, and believed in this young monk very much. Then, after arriving in Ayutthaya, we first went to Wat Ke and Many temples study scriptures and ancient Sanskrit, and they are successful in their studies; in BE 2149 in the Buddhist calendar, they practiced in Wa La Ke Nu socks.

At that time, the king of Sri Lanka wanted to occupy Ayutthaya as his territory, but the kings of both sides were unwilling to use the method of war, which might hurt the lives of innocent people, so the kings of both sides decided to adopt a “fight of wits” method for the battle, and the attacking side came up with the question first. The king of Sri Lanka invited the masters of domestic casting to cast the scriptures of the seven highest domestic masters, and cast the scriptures of 84,000 words on gold like rice grains. After the casting was completed, these golden rice grains were handed over to the seven The most profound mage in the country brought him to Ayutthaya; he met the king, and within seven days from that day, he won if he could answer the full text of the golden rice grains. If Thailand could not solve the answer, Ayutthaya would become the territory of Sri Lanka, Thailand All the gold and silver treasures in Ayutthaya will also be presented to Sri Lanka.

From the first day, the king ordered announcements to be posted everywhere, asking the wise and capable people in the country to answer it. Until the sixth day, no one could solve the problem, and the people of the whole country were very anxious. The colossus walked to Ayutthaya, and was awakened by the loud footsteps of the colossus. On the morning of the seventh day, he told the national master of the dream, and the national master described the dream as a statue of victory. Then someone reported that a master came from the west and had already answered it successfully. , the king was surprised, but also relieved, so he sent someone to take the master into the palace, and after searching around, found Luang Phor Thuad in the Wawain Nusho.

The general told Luang Phor Thuad, “You are the god in the king’s dream, and you will surely save Dacheng.” Please turn the disaster into a blessing, and then invite the master to the palace, sit in the king’s special metaphor, and serve as a monk A custom-made eminent seat; at that time, the seven great masters of Sri Lanka were waiting in the palace. When they saw Luang Phor Tuad, they said in a joking and contemptuous manner, “Where did you get this child to answer?” He replied, “The child is born to grow up, It all takes time, how do you know I can’t answer it?” Then the seven Sri Lankan masters handed over all the golden scripture rice grains to Luang Phor Thuad.

Luang Phor Thuad put all the golden sutra rice grains into his monk bucket, meditated with closed eyes and meditated, “Please all the gods and Buddhas who bless Thailand, parents, elders, teachers who have taught me, all the merits, please bless me Answer, save the country”. Then he turned the bucket back and began to translate and answer these little scriptures cast on golden rice grains. If there was divine help, and during the process, he found that seven scriptures were missing, so he read out “sang wit ta bu “ga ya ba” asked the Master to take out the missing golden rice grains, and the Master could only hand it over obediently. In the afternoon, he successfully solved the problem that was almost sent to the country.

After that, the king worshipped Luang Phor Thuad very much and gave him a lot of things, but he was completely unwilling to take them. He only replied to the king that he did not need them, the king told him that if he needs anything in the future, please tell the king, the king will give given to him.

After Ayutthaya had survived this calamity, he did not expect a strange plague to appear. No matter how to treat it, or how to do it, it would not help. The king could only watch the spread of the plague, and when he was helpless, he thought of Luang Phor Thuad again. , so he was asked to invite him into the palace again. Luang Phor Thuad picked up his seven-colored gemstones, and after meditating silently, he placed his gemstones in a large urn of water, and asked the king to give the water to the people to drink. The person who had crossed the water got better, and the king admired him even more.

After several years, he went into the palace and told the king that he was about to leave here and go back to his hometown. The king was very reluctant to part with him, but there was nothing he could do. He just said to the eminent monk, “Please don’t leave us alone.” Luang Phor Thuad went to the city gate of Ayutthaya. It is often said that Luang Phor Thuad continued to help the people on the way back from Ayutthaya.

Vapa Thaksin Ban Patapaku (the name of the temple) is the place where he wants to practice. The people welcome him supremely and call him Chongdi Pakou. This temple is doing something. Unexpectedly, as soon as the news reached the king, the king sent 500 people to renovate and add incense to this temple. Within three years, this temple was solemn and magnificent. Luang Phor Thuad practiced in this temple for several years. As time passed, the master gradually entered the old age, and then returned to his hometown in the north and south. The master walked back to his hometown along the land road, and carried forward the Dharma with asceticism all the way. This time, the master returned to his hometown to inject tin in Wat Pha Khoh, and was revered and warmly welcomed by the people from far and near. Later, the master went to the imperial city to raise funds for the reconstruction of the Buddhist temple. And the people within the territory are also under the jurisdiction of the Buddhist temple.

Until one day when the master was 80 years old, he was walking on the beach with a crutch with three bends, and met a pirate. Seeing that he was alone, the pirate caught him on board. Thinking of not being able to move, they just stopped in the middle of the sea. These pirates kept checking and repairing the ship. After several months, all their food and drink had been exhausted, and the pirates began to panic. The master looked at them in pain and wanted to I put my feet into the sea water, but my feet were not long enough, so I recited the scriptures. Unexpectedly, the big boat descended to the height where the master’s feet could soak into the sea water. After the master took his feet away, he asked the pirates to fetch water. I tried, but I didn’t expect that the seawater turned out to be fresh water. The pirates began to respect him and worship him. They kept apologizing to the master and sent the master ashore so that the boat could sail.

After the master went ashore, he rested in the two big withered trees. After that, the two withered trees seemed to have regained their lives. Until now, people still worship these two trees! Luang Phor Thuad, who rescued countless people, gave this village a good memory. Later, the master moved to other areas.

And the real time and place of Luang Phor Thuad’s passing is still a mystery and has been debated. Some people think that the master was at Wat Phra Khok and ascended to heaven; some people think that the master left Wat Phra Khok Afterwards, he continued to go westward and asceticism to stop going south.
