The city-state of Ayutthaya was founded in 1350 and established its capital in 1351 on the Chao Phraya River in central Thailand, calling it Ayutthaya, after Ayodhaya, the Indian city of the hero Rama in the Hindu epic Ramayana .

In 1360 King Ramathibodi (ruled 1351–1369) declared Theravada Buddhism as the official religion and compiled a legal code based on Hindu legal texts and Thai custom that remained in effect until the late nineteenth century.

Ayutthaya became the region’s most powerful kingdom, eventually capturing Angkor and forcing the Khmer to submit to Thai suzerainty.
The Thai kings of Ayuthaya grew very powerful in the 14th and 15th centuries, taking over U Thong and Lopburi, former Khmer strongholds, and moving east in their conquests until Angkor was defeated in 1431.

In Ayutthaya Era, Siamese and Burmese Dynasties fought 24 wars from 1539 to 1767.
“Phra Yod Thong” is a historical Buddha amulet in Thailand. The word “Phra” means “Buddha” and “Yod Thong” means “the top of the flagpole”.

In ancient Ayutthaya kingdom of Thailand ,when the soldiers went to the war, they would find the powerful amulets to carry along with them. Phra Yod Thong was the first amulet they chose because they thought Phra Yod Thong could protect and made them invulnerable. Most Warrior and King would put Phra Yod thong on top of the flag before heading into a battlefield to be auspiciousness and morale.

Before the war is begin, High Rank monks would gather to perform rituals in creating this Phra Yod Thong in order to have power of protection and authority when brought to the battlefield. Phra Yod Thong is made from silver, Copper, Rose Gold and Solid Gold.
The soldiers generally use Phra Yod Thong from silver, While High Rank General use Phra Yod Thong from rose gold, only Royal family and Kings who use Phra Yod Thong made from Solid Gold.

After the battle is finished then this Phra Yod Thong will be cut from the top of flag and stored into the stupa as a royal treasure. Many Phra Yod Thong from Ayutthaya Era found in the treasure chamber in Kru Wat Ratchaburana and Wat Mahathat Ayutthaya.
