Luang Phor Kasem was born on November 28 BE 2455 in a family of descendants of the Lampang King from the Lanna Period. After the death of his uncle(Abbot of Wat Bunyuen), Which happened in the year of BE 2468 he decided to become a novice monk. In BE 2470, he went to Wat Setuwan which is located in Bangkok to study Pali. Within a few years, he returned back to the North side of Thailand to continue his Dhamma studies at Wat Seelom and Wat Bunyawaht. In BE 2476 , he passed his exam in Pali and was ordained as a full fledged monk at the age of 21. His preceptor was Chao Khun Dhammajindah.
When Phra Dtomkhum (then-the abbot of Wat Nunyuen) left the post of abbot, the temple was left without an abbot. The villagers approached Luang Phor Kasem who was young at that time to return to Lampang and became the new abbot. During that period of time, Luang Phor Kasem was always in the forest to practice deep meditation.
Soon Luang Phor Kasem was the abbot of Wat Nunyuen but he still continued his learning of Dhamma and practice of meditation. The more he learned and mediated, the more he realized how uncertain life is. However, the position of being an abbot kept him very busy which became an obstacle for him. As his intention was to develop deeper knowledge about meditation and spiritual development. Therefore, in BE 2492, he left the temple and settled at Susahn Sahlahwangthan which is a cemetery surrounded in the midst of the jungles in the Lampang suburbs. As many villagers avoid going there as it is near a cemetery and it was believed to be haunted. Luang Phor Kasem was very determined and kept practicing meditation whereby he reached the highest stage of mediation. He would sit in front of the cemetery and watch the burning corpses.Whether its unbearable heat or the downpour of the heavy rains. He would still continue to watch the dead corpses being burned to ashes.
Luang Phor Kasem would sit in deep meditation for as long as 3 months without any shelter under the intense heat of the sun or the thunderstorms of the rain. Even though his robes were soaked during the downpour or during the cold seasons. Luang Phor Kasem would sit quietly without any complaints . At times, he will abstain from eating for as long as 49 days. Since BE 2514, he only bathed once a year but even then there was no foul smell coming from his body; even when he was sweating under the hot blazing sun. Even without a shelter or mosquito net, he never had mosquito bites. During his deep meditation, it was said that he was in touch with Luang Phor Doo Wat Sakae Ayutthaya. Luang Phor Kasem always stressed that as a forest monk, he has no need for any property. The only requisites were an alms bowl, his robes and a piece of human bones used for meditation. He did not own any slippers or even a pillow to sleep on. To him, even a pillow was a luxury. He used to sleep on the ground where he would meditate. Whatever people gave him, he would donate them to other monks. He was very determined to find the Truth and to attain Nibbana . He asked nothing in life. Even though he was a descendant of the royal blood of Lampang. Luang Phor Kasem passed away on 15th January BE 2539 at the Lampang hospital. A memorial and mausoleum were built at the area nearby the cemetery and his dead body was kept in a glass coffin at Wat SusanTriLuck. In Lampang Province in northern Thailand, there is a very famous holy monk Kruba Srivichai who is most respected and trusted by the local people in northern Thailand. He is the greatest saint in modern times, and he is like a bright lamp in people’s hearts. Illuminate the hearts of the people in all directions. The countless good deeds done in the monk’s career have become the history that the people in the north will talk about, so that the people can admire and learn from them. His life accidents have been recorded, and people still I am singing and admiring him. However, in his deeds, this prophecy was recorded: “In the near future, there will be a wise man with merit, and a monk who came for merit will be born in Lampang, so that the people can rely on. “ But soon after the prophecy passed away, and the prophecy he left behind made the people of Lampang wait day and night for the birth of this saint. In Lampang, northern Thailand, there is a small town called Takowang. In this small town, there is a rich family. good man. They are kind and generous, and often help the needy poor people. Therefore, they are quite respected in the Takowang area. On November 28, BE 2455, the hostess of this house gave birth to a baby boy, he is Lampang A generation of eminent monks known to everyone (Luang Phor Kasem). Luang Phor Kasem does not have the background of other eminent monks who came from a poor family when they were young and had to become a monk. He has a wealthy family, a happy life, no worries about food and clothing, and his parents are willing to give. Luang Phor Kasem is not like those monks who drop out of school and become a monk because of family poverty. In fact, Luang Phor Kasem has five years of basic education, and it is also fate to step into the monk’s career. At that time in the Buddhist calendar BE 2468 Luang Phor Kasem worked as a novice novice in the local temple for seven days in 2010. Because of the seven-day temple life, Luang Phor Kasem has had a great interest in Buddhism since then, which also prompted him to study in BE 2470. At that time, with the permission of his parents, he continued to become a monk and became a young novice, and then officially became a monk in BE 2475. He accepted the shaved ordination and started his official monk career. When Luang Phor Kasem finished his studies, he began to practice. However, the knowledge he learned from books did not give him very clear instructions. So he began to visit masters everywhere until he met Kruba Get Wat Praduuprom. Kruba Get is an ascetic, that is, a monk who likes to meditate in the forest and practice asceticism. After seeing Kruba Get, Luang Phor Kasem expressed his wish to practice. Kruba Get saw that he was so sincere and decided to accept him As a disciple, he took him around to meditate. Kruba Get can be said to be the first meditation teacher of Luang Phor Kasem. Since then, Luang Phor Kasem has started his career as a forest monk. This is also the life he has dreamed of for a long time, so for him, living in the forest to practice asceticism is not so hard at all. Instead, he feels that in nature, He has more time and space to experience a quiet life and let him concentrate on his practice. For him, such a quiet life is the real happiness. This quiet and simple life allows Luang Phor Kasem to go all out During this period, Kruba Get often took Luang Phor Kasem to various mountains and even cemeteries to meditate and practice, and he was also accustomed to the food offered by the believers. One meal, that is to eat only one meal a day, and only eat it in the bowl, is to pour all the food into the bowl, whether it is sweet, sour or bitter. His whole day’s life is meditation. At 11 o’clock in the evening, he chanted sutras. When he went to sleep, he didn’t sleep like ordinary people, he just lay down and rested. And every day, he would definitely dedicate his merits to all sentient beings. Later, the abbot of Wat Wenyun passed away, and it was necessary to appoint an abbot. When everyone was selecting virtuous monks, they unanimously elected Luang Phor Kasem. Although the master thought that he was not qualified enough, he could not refuse. Until the year BE 2492, Master resigned from the presiding post and continued his practice of asceticism. Monks who like asceticism like this are rare in Thai Buddhist circles. In BE 2492, Luang Phor Kasem escaped from Wat Wenyun. People searched and searched but could not find it. When they came to the hall, they saw a piece of paper on the throne. It was a two-page farewell letter. Said: “I have already taught everything, don’t even think about following me, because I have given up, as the abbot is like the head of the family, I have to take responsibility for many things, it is not suitable for me, I need to live in seclusion, I don’t want to come back. “ The villagers who believed in Luang Phor Kasem refused to give up trying, and gathered forty to fifty people to find him. They met him at the cemetery of Wangtangting, where Luang Phor Kasem usually practiced. The villagers begged him to return to the temple because that day was On the end of summer, the villagers have to eat for good, and some even cry, but Luang Phor Kasem is still and does not answer until the villagers have to give up. In the process of asceticism, Luang Phor Kasem once passed a mass grave in Lampang area. In order to save the dead souls, the master did not eat for 48 days until the completion of the ceremony. This allusion is familiar to anyone with a little knowledge of eminent monks in Thailand. I know, in fact Luang Phor Kasem did something like this more than once, and it is only because this incident is more famous that there are detailed records. After leaving the mass grave, he started his own practice again. He walked on foot I have been to the mountainous area of Yunnan Province in China, where I have done a lot of research and discussion on Buddhism and magic with the master of Northern Buddhism. So later, when Luang Phor Kasem made Buddhist holy objects, he often found Buddha The design of the amulets has some characteristics of the Buddha statues of Northern Buddhism. In BE 2503, Master cast a small part of the Buddha amulets for the first time, until BE 2513, cast the first phase of himself, and then in BE 2514, cast many phases of himself , and the first period. At that time, the people were crying and kneeling, begging Luang Phor Kasem to return to the abbot of the temple, but the master continued to meditate without being affected. The people also invited the master’s biological mother to lobby, but the mother could not change Luang Phor Kasem’s determination to practice everywhere. Don’t worry about him, so he distributed all the huge family property to the people, and kept only a part for himself. He built a residence on the mountain where Luang Phor Kasem practiced, and planned to take care of him nearby. Later, he couldn’t bear the high mountain climate and became seriously ill. The doctor came for diagnosis and treatment, but there was still no improvement. The mother knew that time was running out, so she called a young monk to come, gave the young monk 21 baht, and told the young monk that if she was dying, she must invite Luang Phor Kasem to come, and the little monk Do the same and invite Luang Phor Kasem. When Luang Phor Kasem chanted sutras for his mother, a large group of bees gathered above the mother’s body. After circling a few times, the bees dispersed, the mother died, and the master’s eyes were red. Later, the villagers collected the 700 baht at that time, Helped her build a tomb, and Luang Phor Kasem also left here and went on the path of spiritual practice, spreading the Dharma and taking care of the people. Finally, he came to the site of his future temple, which was still a tomb at that time, and it is now called Wat Susanthailak. When Luang Phor Kasem was alive, many people went to him every day, but he always said very little, and kept silent most of the time. Luang Phor Kasem said: “If I talk too much to them, I won’t have time to practice. “ Once, a thief came to Luang Phor Kasem’s monastery in the middle of the night and planned to steal the master’s mosquito net. Then he spent a lot of effort and still did not cut the rope tied to the mosquito net. Then Luang Phor Kasem heard a sound , came out of the meditation, and helped the thief cut it. After cutting, he offered the mosquito net with both hands, and there were “special gifts”, that is, the quilt and pillow. When the thief took the quilt, Luang Phor Kasem also patted him on the shoulder and told him to take the rice and grain too, and leave quickly, otherwise others will find out. Luang Phor Kasem’s behavior makes this thief look like a thief. Luang Phor Kasem’s The mind is so pure that there is nothing, not clinging to anything. Since this happened, Luang Phor Kasem no longer used mosquito nets, quilts and pillows. He reflected on this and said: “It may not be a thief, maybe it is a god who tested my heart and gave me a chance. Practice.” Strangely, even though Luang Phor Kasem did not use mosquito nets or spices, he never suffered a mosquito bite even in the cemetery. One day, an Indian tribe came to visit Luang Phor Kasem in the Nanbang area. When he met the master, Luang Phor Kasem said to him: “Duck Sand Road” and left alone, everyone around felt strange at that time , Why did Luang Phor Kasem say something to a foreigner that they didn’t even understand? Then they said to the Indian, do you know what Luang Phor Kasem said to you? The Indian said, I don’t know Thai, and I don’t know what the master said, but I felt that the master told me to wait for him here, and he would come to see me in a while. Sure enough, Luang Phor Kasem said Appeared beside the Indian. The normal temple practice has allowed many people to witness the miracle of Luang Phor Kasem. For example, Master has not taken a bath since BE2514. In the hot weather in Thailand, as long as Master calms down and recites sutras, not only will the flow of sutras not be lost. Sweat, and there will be a peculiar fragrance on the body. Communicating with good believers in different countries and languages, Luang Phor Kasem can directly know the needs of good believers in a heart-to-heart way. Luang Phor Kasem has never used any means of transportation, and only sits on one pair of feet. The only property on his body is the alms bowl, a human bone, a thin monk’s robe, and not even a pair of shoes. He has been living an ascetic life. Luang Phor Kasem never asked for anything during his ascetic life, and he was very satisfied with his ascetic life, and distributed the things he got outside to other monks one by one. The master did not use a pillow to sleep, because for the master, A pillow is a luxury, and it is enough to only need a place to hold the body, and the master sleeps and meditates in the same place. There was another time when Luang Phor Kasem went to a puja, his heart stopped beating suddenly when he was blessing the sacred object. After nearly an hour, everyone thought that ordinary people could not come back to life after stopping their heartbeat for so long. When the treatment was about to leave, Luang Phor Kasem woke up suddenly and said to everyone: “I still have unfinished business.” After that, he insisted on continuing to bless this amulet until the end of the ceremony. On August 10, BE 2524, around 4 pm, it just rained heavily around the Luang Phor Kasem temple. Four mysterious female believers visited Luang Phor Kasem. Later, Luang Phor Kasem asked his disciple Ah Shun to accompany him. These female donors visited the temple and paid homage to the main hall. Soon after, these female donors hoped to give an item to Master’s assistant, A Shundai, and the assistant took the four female donors to Master’s prayer room and returned to the master. The main hall of the temple was cleaned up. When they returned to the teacher’s meditation room after cleaning up, the four female benefactors had disappeared for no reason. The things they brought also exploded suddenly, blowing up half of Luang Phor Kasem’s chanting room. The monks in the temple They all think that the monks are more fortunate than good, but Luang Phor Kasem walked out of the ruins unharmed. It can be seen how powerful Luang Phor Kasem’s spells are in preventing danger and protecting his body. Since Luang Phor Kasem is a descendant of the royal family of Lampang, with royal blood, he was born with high blessings, but the master gave up his status as a nobleman, and unswervingly practiced and studied Buddhism and meditation. The master is very grateful every day. Live a life of asceticism firmly and never ask for anything in life. Although the master can enjoy the life of a nobleman, he still hopes to choose to become an ascetic. The master never dislikes the people’s offerings, no matter whether the food is spoiled or not, he is willing to accept it. He is a man who is completely far away from the world. Luang Phor Kasem is not only a good monk who loves the people and is honest, there are also many wonderful stories in his monk’s life, which are passed down to later generations. The monk looks weak on the outside, but he is actually quite healthy, but people always get old, Luang Phor Kasem passed away on January 15, BE 2539, at the age of 84. In the months before Xianyou, he also produced a lot of amulets and sacred objects, leaving his last thoughts for the good believers. |
