The Wat Phra Sri Mahathat is a large Royal temple in the center of Lopburi town. The temple was founded when Lopburi was under control of the Khmer empire from Angkor, in present day Cambodia.

The main prang of Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat was built by the Khmer in the Bayon style around 800 years ago. It is argued that Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat is the oldest Buddhist temple in Lopburi, dating back to the 12th century. Certainly the temple was renovated and added on to with the arrival of King Narai in the 17th century.

Three-fourth of amulets in Lopburi were discovered in Phra Sri Rattana Maha That Temple. Phra Ruang Nang found in this temple have many moulds and appearances hence it is difficult to classify and name each moulds. Thus, the collectors generally call it, “Phra Ruang Nang”.

Phra Ruang Nang, Kru Phra Sri Rattana Maha That Temple are classified according to raw materials; silver-based alloy, red rust lead-bsed alloy, soil and bronze-based alloy.
